Every once in a while, someone will drop off a unique piece of hardwood at the Cedar Swan Woodshop. Last week, Scott dropped off these perfect chunks of Eastern Red Cedar and Buckthorn. Once they get a chance to dry, they’ll be crafted into beautiful puzzle boxes, bowls, cutting boards, trivets, pens, and other unique wood items. Thank you very much for thinking of us Scott! If you have unique chunks of wood in need of a project, bring them by and we’ll match them up with a woodworker who will make great use of them. We especially love unique woods like apple, red cedar, walnut, cherry, hickory, hedge, maple, spalted woods, knots and burls. Some people love chocolate. Some people love wine. We love chunks of gnarly hardwood!
We’re equally grateful and confused by the random treasures we found today stashed in wood bowls and hidden on shelves at the Cedar Swan Woodshop in Nevis. “It’s either the dumbest thing I’ve ever done, or absolute genius. I can’t tell”, said Rick, when he pulled his most recent carving out of his bag, “I was going to add some sand to it, but I wanted it to remain understated”. The hand-carved wood legs coming out of blue acrylic water atop a trophy-like stand titled “Beach” was absolutely one of a kind. We agreed to give it a shot and see if there was someone who appreciated it as much as he enjoyed making it. About a half hour later (before I had a chance to put it into the system), it found an enthusiastic home. Thank you to all the makers who turn their creative concepts into reality and share them with the community and thank you to the customers who share our enthusiasm for quality (and occasionally quirky) hand-made wood gifts and treasures.
